Firehorse ARC and Shutterstock strike Exclusive licensing deal

London, April 27, 2016 – Leading independent stock footage company Firehorse ARC and Shutterstock, a leading global provider of imagery and music, have agreed to a five-year licensing deal for up to 45,000 HD and SD clips from Beirut-based ARC’s extensive archive of unique and exclusive Arab and Middle East video content.

Brokered through Paul Maidment, founder of Kite Media Consultancy, the deal offers hours of unique and exclusive content available to producers around the world.

Najat Rizk, co-owner of Firehorse ARC, said of the deal, “We are thrilled to be working with Shutterstock to take our output to a much wider international audience. Our ability to access people and places in the region has resulted in a rare and unique archive. With profound change happening across the Middle East, the demand for footage is unprecedented and Shutterstock enhances our ability to deliver content to global channels and filmmakers.”

Mouna Mounayer, co-owner Firehorse ARC, added, “The body of content we offer has particular significance and resonance right now as many of the clips are of places that are no longer accessible or have been destroyed, such as the heritage sites of Syria. No one will be able to capture these places and the life around them in the same way again. Working with Shutterstock gives a greater number of film makers access to this valuable archive.”

“This is an important archive to bring to a global audience,” said Tom Spota Director of Video Acquisition at Shutterstock. “It is a privilege to be able to offer such diverse and rare footage to film and TV makers around the world. The importance of what ARC has captured on film, before and during the current changes taking place in the Middle East, stands as a powerful record of everyday life and also lost treasures.”

The company’s catalogue offers a rich and varied range of material – covering modern and traditional societies, lifestyle, landscapes, religions, heritage, art, architecture and interviews with people from across the Middle East. Some of the archive’s exclusive content was shot in areas that are today dangerous and largely inaccessible.

Highlights of the clips available include:

Temple of Bel, Palmyra, Syria – 2005

The destruction by IS of the Temple of Bel in Palmyra took the world by storm.  Firehorse ARC has rare, exclusive and detailed footage of the archaeological site of Palmyra as well as many others under threat in Iraq and across the region.

The Monastery of St. Moses The Abyssinian, Syria – 2004

Before his kidnapping by IS, Italian priest Father Paolo Dall’Oglio spent 30 years reconstructing the 6th Century monastery of St Moses the Abyssinian, making it a centre of interfaith dialogue.  Father Paolo disappeared in Rakka where he was trying to negotiate the release of hostages and broker a truce with Kurdish Militia.

Qom, Iran – 2005

The footage focuses on the beautiful iwan of the Mausoleum of Fatima Masumeh shot when Iran was closed to the west.

T3Media, a leader in title management, delivery, and monetization services for media and entertainment companies, today announced a partnership with Firehorse Archive. Firehorse Archive collection offers unique access to thousands of raw video clips from the Arab World and the Middle East via the website

The archive is powered by Library Manager, T3Media’s core platform. The professionally shot and catalogued content from more than 20 countries across the region can be easily searched via keyword, enabled through metadata curation and consistency. Firehorse is able to monetize this content by leveraging T3Media’s long history of licensing innovative and powerful footage along with a simple and straightforward portal interface.

Commenting on the launch of the Firehorse Archive, Partner and Head of Archive Mouna Mounayer said that “since our inception as a production company in the early 1990’s we believed the footage we were generating was both a treasure and a valuable commodity, which should be built upon, expanded and eventually turned into an independent business. And so it was from the beginning of the journey that we were looking for a partner in the Archive industry whose expertise we could rely on and whose reputation was of the highest order. T3 Media fit the bill on all counts. Their suite of technologies from platform to portal development to licensing have helped launch the Firehorse Archive from an idea into a business. In our region, the Middle East, where there are only a handful of other online archives, I believe that because of the quality and uniqueness of our content and the cutting edge technology and reach provided by T3Media we have an enviable edge.”

“From the beginning T3Media has supported content curators through our licensing business,” said Matt Weiser, senior vice president of global sales for T3Media. “The Firehorse Archive project was particularly rewarding for us as a company as the business need spread across multiple product lines, proving T3Media’s holistic approach to content monetization and distribution is sound and provides true value to our clients.

Beirut, Lebanon: The Firehorse Archive collection offers filmmakers unique access to a vast library of raw video clips from the Middle East with a special focus on the Arab World.

Today the Middle East is undergoing unprecedented change brought about by the shifting geopolitics of the region. Media across digital platforms is closely following these changes, indicating a strong demand for Arab content in the Middle East and globally. Yet there are few dedicated footage archives with both regional expertise and unique access, which provide professional content for global digital channels and filmmakers who want to tell in-depth stories about the Arab World. Commenting on the launch of the exclusive footage, Mouna Mounayer, Partner and Head of Archive said, “With recent events in the region, we understood that our archives held unrivalled footage of World Heritage sites in the vast majority of the region. The professionally shot rushes contain a wide variety of detailed panoramic views and close-up shots of intact archaeological sites and cultural treasures. This body of content represents a catalogue of particular significance – no one will ever be able to capture the same original elements on film again. We felt it our responsibility to make this footage available to story telling professionals around the world, helping them create their distinct and in-depth analysis on varying perspectives from the Middle East.”

Filmmakers, researchers, journalists narrating in-depth stories about the Arab World will find professionally shot and catalogued content from more than 20 countries across the region, suitable for global digital channels. Our unrivalled access to, and in some cases rare, footage captures all aspects of the region, providing unique insight into its rugged beauty, rich cultural heritage, diverse religious communities, distinctive architecture, magnificent landscape and most importantly its people, as well as the darker side of its turbulent politics and all too frequent conflicts.

Today, Iraq and Syria are riven by conflict. Their cultural heritage systematically destroyed by civil war and political and religious upheaval. These are places no one will ever see the same way again. The Firehorse Archive has rare and exclusive footage of Mesopotamian sites in Iraq including: Babylon, Ur, Eridu, Warka and the Iraq National Museum before it was looted in 2003. You can search our archives for footage on disappearing religious minorities like the Christians of Turkey and Syria, the Zoroastrians of Iran, the Bahai and many others. The Firehorse Archive is an unparalleled resource of visual content of the Arab World.

The Firehorse Archive will celebrate the official launch of its website, at the Footage Market Place in London on the 19th of May 2015.
